Reminder : no dog is hypoallergenic.

I shall repeat that again…no dog is hypoallergenic, not even an Australian Labradoodle!

Allergies are linked to:

- Coat/shedding

- Dander

- Saliva

If you only have an allergy to coat/shedding dogs, then yes ALDs, poodles, bichons etc… you should be fine living with.

Allergies to dander and saliva will cause reactions whatever the dog.

I am allergic to saliva, to dander and to shedding dogs.

I CAN live with ALDs with an air purifier, keeping the dogs clipped short, weekly washing of sofa covers and never allowing the dogs upstairs. Occasionally I do need to use allergy meds and eye drops to help.

This does not mean the Australian Labradoodle is hypoallergenic. This means I have gained a tolerance over nearly 20years and have adjusted my life, home and environment to allow me to live with this breed.

The term “hypoallergenic dog” gets thrown around so casually that people start believing it’s a biological category rather than a marketing label. Just remember, all dogs produce allergens, just in different amounts and through different pathways.
